Oil changes

Lubrication service — oil and filter changes.

What does an oil change involve?

An oil change means replacing the engine oil and the oil filter. The oil lubricates the moving parts of the engine, cools them and keeps dirt in suspension so it does not settle. Over time and with heat the oil loses those properties and the filter fills up.

This is therefore routine maintenance rather than a repair: it is done after a certain distance or period of time, whether or not anything is wrong. Regular oil changes are one of the simplest ways to make an engine last.

The car's handbook states which oil grade to use and how often to change it. If the handbook is not to hand, it can usually be worked out from the make and model year.

Useful to have at hand when you get in touch

This helps us have the right parts ready.

  • The registration number.
  • Make and model year of the car.
  • When the oil was last changed, if you know, and the odometer reading.
  • Whether the handbook specifies a particular oil grade.
  • Whether you have noticed oil spots under the car or an oil light on the dashboard.
