Engine repairs
Repairs to the engine and everything connected to it.
What are engine repairs?
The engine is the heart of the car: it burns fuel and turns it into power. Around it sits a set of parts that all have to work together — ignition, fuel system, cooling system, timing belt or chain, seals and sensors. When one of them fails you usually feel it before you see it: the car hesitates, runs unevenly, loses power, uses more fuel, or makes a noise that was not there last week.
An engine repair therefore starts by finding what is causing the symptoms. Sometimes the cause is simple and sits on the surface; sometimes parts have to come apart to reach it. We look at the car, tell you what we find and what we think needs doing before going further.
It pays to come in sooner rather than later. A small noise or a warning light left alone can turn into a bigger job.
Useful to have at hand when you get in touch
The better you describe the symptoms, the faster we know where to start.
- The registration number.
- Make and model year of the car.
- A description of the symptoms: noise, vibration, smell, smoke or loss of power.
- When it happens — at startup, in the cold, at idle, under acceleration or while driving?
- Whether a warning light is on and what it looks like.
- When you first noticed it and whether it has got worse.
- Whether any work has recently been done on the car.
